Our nearby neighbour Hong Kong is considered one of the easiest and most action-packed destinations for Aussies to visit. However, with hundreds of activities to choose from and places to see, great food to eat and loads of hotels to stay, it can be a little overwhelming. But that’s where we come in. The TDL team has created a list of 8 great things to do while in Hong Kong. (Pictures courtesy Hong Kong Tourism Board)

Hop on, hop off Hong Kong tours

Who better to show you the sights of Hong Kong than the people who live there? Jump on a hop-on-hop-off sightseeing tour or a guided city walk for free. Cathay Pacific has partnered with the Hong Kong Tourism Board to offer a range of free and discounted tours and experiences for those on a holiday, and even those in transit can make the most of a longer stopover with a quick trip to Disneyland or a cable car ride (above).

Did you know?

A non-stop flight from the east coast of Australia to Hong Kong takes about 9 hours 30 minutes on average.

Discover some amazing dishes

One of the most difficult decisions to make on holidays is where you’re going to eat. Hong Kong is packed with vibrant restaurants boasting a world of dishes, but finding the best spots where the locals eat can be tricky. So we’ve made it easy for you and offer you one: head to Under Bridge Spicy Crab and you can’t go wrong. This unassuming Wan Chai restaurant is home to the best chilli crab in Hong Kong, enticing foodies from all over the city, if not the world.

Say hello to InterContinental Hong Kong

Dress up your holiday with five-star luxury and one of the best views in Hong Kong. Kick back and relax on the pool terrace, or even take in some Tai Chi classes. The best part? InterContinental Hong Kong sits right on the harbour, letting all of Hong Kong’s gorgeous city lights shine onto the water at night.

#4

Ocean Park theme park

Ocean Park is Hong Kong’s is the second largest theme park in Hong Kong and is the answer to the Gold Coast’s SeaWorld, only bigger, better and with one significant difference… Giant Pandas. Located in Hong Kong’s Southern District, the park features rollercoasters, rides and a huge animal conservation effort.

Tian Tan Buddha’s golden might

On the remote Lantau Island sits one of Asia’s most recognisable figures, the Tian Tan Buddha. At 34 metres tall, the golden statue draws pilgrims from all over Asia, sitting beside the Buddhist World in the South, Po Lin Monastery. You can use a combination of train, bus and cable cars to reach this remote wonder. The view is definitely worth the trip.

The tram rises 396 metres above sea level and offers a killer view across the very top of Hong Kong.

#7

Stunning views on a tram ride

Arguably the most popular attraction in Hong Kong, there is a reason why the Peak Tram brings thousands of tourists every year. As one of the world’s oldest railways, the tram rises 396 metres above sea level and offers a killer view across the very top of Hong Kong. The incline is so steep it seems the neighbouring high-rise buildings are falling towards the peak, so steer clear of this one if you are afraid of heights.

#8

Restaurants galore on Lamma Island

Three kilometres off the coast of Hong Kong lies Lamma Island and the small town of Sok Kwu Wan. Dine at the restaurants lining the coastline offering fresh dishes of seafood caught from the harbour which literally floats in front of you.
