A rooftop bar, outdoor facilities, sharp modern designs and a focus on supporting ‘local’ food producers and musicians sets Aloft Perth apart from other hotels in Western Australia’s capital

Did you know?

Perth’s hotel scene is rapidly growing. In 2016 Sage Hotels opened a property in West Perth and the Mantra Group opened a Peppers. It has been reported more than 4000 rooms are in the development pipeline.

The lowdown

Local support is the focus of Aloft Perth hotel, supporting local musicians with regular gigs that take place in the trendy W XYZ bar.  Since opening in May this year, Aloft Perth has set itself up with a huge wrap around outdoor patio to attract locals to also use the dining facilities of the hotel and also source most of its produce from local suppliers. The rooftop is unbeatable with ultra chic furnishings and views unmatched anywhere else and open for guests to enjoy. It’s used for private functions. As a CT Connections travel advisor, I was lucky to join others as a guest to enjoy a delicious rooftop lunch hosted by the hotel’s head chef Oliver Buenviaje who is highly passionate about food and with extensive experience having worked at the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris and Burj Al Arab Hotel in the United Emirates. We also enjoyed watching a State of Origin rugby game on the hotel’s large screen TV downstairs in the W XYZ bar and there was a buzz with locals catching up with friends in the lounge zoned area of the bar. Others took advantage of their chill out space with table tennis tables and more comfy colourful sofas.

As well as being set up for the leisure market, Aloft Hotel Perth is also quite suitable for corporate travellers and extensive conferencing options. The hotel is located halfway between the city and airport in The Springs, Perth’s biggest urban renewal project near the Swan River, featuring stylish residential, retail and commercial developments. It is a short 10 minute walk to Crown Perth and a train station for trips into the city as well as local bus services from out the front of the hotel.

Hotel facilities

Efficient and speedy check-in with a very warm staff, modern and cosy waiting area to the right featuring a colourful feature lounge chair and a large long wooden table where corporates can read a paper and work on their laptop. The rooftop is exclusive to hotel guests and is ideal for private functions with their large indoor function space which can be set up for corporate needs with a large projection screen, this room has large French doors which open onto the outdoor rooftop bar with panoramic views of Perth.

Food

Spring’s Kitchen is next door to the Aloft Perth hotel lobby with various styles of seating, both booth style and a 90 degree wrap around patio. It’s open from 6am for breakfast and open for lunch and dinner closing at 9.30pm. Fantastic coffee and breakfast is either a large choice of items from a continental buffet or a la carte.

Dining out

We were spoilt with a day out to Sandalford Winery arriving in style on a Captain Cook Cruise. We enjoyed a delicious two-course lunch followed by a winery and wine tasting experience at the Mandoon Estate next door. When it comes to location, dining in the hotel restaurant is the most convenient option, or, for those who want to venture out, Crown Perth – formerly the Burswood Entertainment Complex – is 1km down the road, an easy walk from the hotel or cheap Uber or taxi ride. There is a small shopping strip across the road along with an IGA, Red Rooster and Subway.
